Julia has taken part in One Foot Forward every year since 2021:
"I grew up in a country town where mental health was never really talked about. It wasn't until I was older that I realised the anxiety I felt as a child wasn't just nerves, and that I wasn't the only person experiencing it.
I first joined One Foot Forward after a number of youth suicides in my local community. I wanted to do something to raise awareness and support mental health, but I soon realised I was doing it for myself too.
“My mind and body thrive on it”
Walking has become a huge part of my wellbeing. Being outdoors, connecting with my community and taking time away from screens helps me stay mindful and present. Just as importantly, One Foot Forward helps break down the stigma around mental health and reminds people that they're not alone.
To anyone thinking about taking part in One Foot Forward, I say: do it! Being outside and moving your body can do wonders for your mental health. The community will have your back, and together we'll take it one step at a time."

Please be Kind, as you never know what someone is going through. The effects of mental illness and the impact of physical health can cause significant impairment in daily life. With awareness, understanding, empathy and early intervention supports. This foundation can pave the way to more effectively promote mental health and well being. Therefore, I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone.

This October, I’ll be walking 100km to raise funds for Australians affected by mental health as part of the One Foot Forward challenge. Mental health has touched my life, my family, and many of my friends. Over the past 12 months, I’ve lost two incredibly important people, and their absence is something I carry with me every day. Taking part in this fundraiser is my way of honouring their memory while helping raise awareness and support for those who are still fighting battles we can’t always see. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you never truly know what someone is going through even behind the brightest smile. A little kindness, understanding, or simply checking in on someone can make all the difference. Please remember you are never alone. Every step I take is for those who need hope, support, and to know they’re are never fighting this battle alone 💛🦋🌈

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. I have been in some very dark places, the worst being when health anxiety and depression took over my life to the point I only felt peace when I was asleep, a very dark, lonely and scary time for me. I am doing this for everyone currently experiencing a decline in their mental health ❤️

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. Good on everyone participating in this years challenge. This lil challenge against myself is giving me such a good mindset, I suffer terribly with anxiety and depression, but just a little ding on my phone that lets me know I have had another donation to my page uplifts me so much. Take care everyone, don't tri[p over while your out there doing good for our misssion. Cheers Leanne
