Message of Support

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. Let’s all stand together to work towards prevention rather than intervention.

Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

In fact, every day in Australia, 9 people will die by suicide.

Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.

This October, I’ll be taking part in One Foot Forward to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute, so that they can put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

My why…

I’m 26km into my 60km pledge. When I started, my inspiration was raising money and awareness to help those dear to me that have suffered ill mental health. While on the treadmill on day 4, I had the realisation that this is beneficial to me as well. My stress levels have been high and my mental health hasn’t been fantastic for quite a while, but I just kept saying “I’m ok, I don’t have the option of breaking down.” Having been so busy for the last few months and not having time for myself, when I then did have time to sit and relax I found myself depressed and sad, not really knowing what to do to occupy my time, and feeling guilty for not being busy. I was very down on myself and quite negative which was affecting my relationships and daily life was a struggle. Being active has helped push that negative talk aside, and I now feel proud of myself when I tell people what I’m walking for this month and how many km’s I’ve walked so far. Movement and doing something you enjoy is a huge part of good mental health, I plan to continue making positive changes after October, and I hope my journey can be an inspiration to others to make a start on looking after their physical health which in turn helps to improve mental health.
