Support My Walk for Mental Health Research
I decided to study psychology 10 years ago because I wanted to understand the most complicated squishy organ that enables me to make sense of the world, but sometimes does not enable me to function.I decided to work in the field of mental health research 6 years ago because I had many people in my life who have been going through their mental health journey, not always getting support or treatment they needed.
I worked on a nation-wide adolescent mental health research project and visited schools across the country. I had the privilege of hearing stories from students and teachers during these visits. Their valuable stories made me realise that treatments and early interventions are essential but not enough to reduce mental health burden and that systemic social factors must be addressed to improve population mental health.
I began working in policy research last year, with the ambition to maximise prevention efforts and improve mental health system and practice through policy-level changes and influences.
Mental health research helps prevent young people from developing mental health issues harnessing innovative interventions; create mentally healthier schools, workplaces, and communities; improve the effectiveness and precision of mental health treatments; address social determinants of mental health for social justice and health equity.
I am walking this October to support fundraising for Black Dog Institute's mental health research that are dedicated to makes differences to lives of people who might develop, are living and lived with mental health struggles. I’d really appreciate if you can help me out with as much/little as you feel comfortable donating. Every bit counts🙂
