Message of Support

You are not alone. As I walk this October, I will be thinking of someone each day I know who has been affected by mental illness or suicide. Thank goodness much of the stigma around mental health is better than it was in 90s, but we've got a long way to go. We need to talk more about it. As I walk wearing one of my One Foot Forward t-shirts, it opens up an opportunity to have a conversation with someone about why this is important. I'm walking for all those I love who struggle(d) with mental illness or care(d) for someone who does/did. You are not alone. In love, Meg

Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

In fact, every day in Australia, 9 people will die by suicide.

Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.

This October, I’ll be taking part in One Foot Forward to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute, so that they can put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

New walking goal

Hey! I hope your morning has started well. I’ve just adjusted my goal as I’d already passed it. it was 40 km but I’ve added another 110 to the goal, so here goals to a bunch more walking!

Let’s go

On this first day of the event, I decided to walk to the gym instead of driving. I’ve been away and first day back to the gym always feels hard so the walk was a great way to get back to it. Walking home a thought popped into my head: what about stepping it up a bit. So I did. A bit of a jog-walk. This was what my face looked like when I got home (very red!), but my heart was singing at the exercise and how much better I felt. Today I’m thinking about my ex who had schizo-affective disorder and how hard it was for him in the 90s to even talk about it. I remember telling people and them visibly shrinking away from us as though they may catch it. So, it became like a secret we had to hold so that he could be safe. Let’s keep talking about mental illness as it’s the best way for everyone to feel more included and loved.
